What's That Ye?
What's That Ye?
As you may know from my last post I listen to a lot of rap and despite previous events, Kanye West is my favourite artist and no matter how outrageous or morally wrong his public appearances are, he probably always will be. Not only is he my favourite rapper but he is an inspiration to me through his fashion, innovation and I’ll always admire him for not caring what people think.
Like most people, The College Dropout was the first Kanye album I heard and it has always been my favourite, I think it’s got the ‘realest’ lyrics, all the beats are catchy and like many of my favourite albums, there isn’t a bad song on there. I think it’s because I listened to this so often that I was so disappointed with 808’s and Heartbreak but I’m not gonna lie, it was a good album, maybe even great, but there was something about it that I just didn’t like. I think his ego may have kicked in a fair bit by then and so the lyrics didn’t seem as good and many of the tracks sounded similar because of the over-use (overuse may be an understatement, pretty much every lyric that came out his mouth was robotic) of that god awful invention they call auto-tune.
This is why, for Kanye fans with similar views to me, Sunday night was a big deal. If you (somehow) haven’t heard, Kanye debuted the first song of the upcoming album, Good Ass Job. The song was called Power and thank god! it doesn’t feature any auto-tune, so I’m hoping that goes for every track that’s set to appear on the album. While the track doesn’t quite bring it back to the College Dropout days, I think he has gone far enough back to avoid auto-tune so it’s all good. It wasn’t just the track that caught my attention during the performance, while his suit kept him looking fly as always, that was one hell of a necklace and ring combo he had going on there. It must have felt super sketchy being that high up with what seemed like the actual Great Sphinx and Pyramids on your knuckles and round your neck.
Either way, the performance was good, the track was good, the outfit was good and most importantly he’s back!
Good Ass Job is expected to be released on September 14th (according to MTV)
Thanks for reading
Stay Gold.

He then proceeded to join Twitter earlier today and is already over 100k followers, in just 7 HOURS! - http://www.twitter.com/KanyeWest - I'm not one to brag but I'm pretty sure I was his 10th follower haha
Thanks,
thanks for the comment!
Exactly, The College Dropout will be remembered for lyrical content and for being on of the best breakthrough albums in a long time whereas 808's will be remembered for auto-tune.
i think that the college dropout is kind of a timeless album whereas 808s will be pretty dated in a few years. i think that Kanye's lyrical genius is lost in the auto-tune.
Damn right! With tracks expected to feature Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Common, how can he go wrong? But I think that list may be fake, I can't see Kanye, Cudi and Katy Perry on the same track, would be sick though.
I guess we'll have to wait and see
can't wait to hear his new album
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
I think the release date is still expected to be September 14th, the same day as N*E*R*D release "Nothing" and a week after Kid Cudi drops "Man on the Moon II" Can't wait!!!
Loved reading your post! Yes, Kanye is great despite his public outbursts! lol, Can't wait to hear the rest of the album! x
haha! Like I said before, I only properly like a couple of his songs but he is a decent artist.
